"What if you're wrong?" asks John Stossel audience member to atheist

Michael Shermer of Skeptic Magazine responds that he could say to god: "you gave me a brain to think, you put forth questionable evidence of your existence, and I questioned". So if god supposedly gives people free will and the ability to reason, why condemn someone for using it when no one is harmed? Shermer also states that if God were angry at someone for disbelieving, that is a petty, human trait reminiscent of the Greek gods. Does such a god deserve to be worshiped?
