What is a Trojan Horse I hear you ask, well let me take you back in time to the days of the trojan war where the Greeks and trojans fought for the city of Troy.
After lots of failed attempts by the Greeks to take over the city, a Greek king decided it might be a good idea to build a huge wooden horse big enough for a group of soldiers to hide in.
The Greek army then appeared to surrender and retreat leaving a horse as a gift for the god Athena, so as not to upset the god the trojans decided to take the horse within the city wall and have a good old victory party.
Once they had all fell asleep after a night of frivolity the Greek soldiers emerged from the wooden horse and killed the trojans guarding the wall and in entered the rest of the Greek army to win the war.
So. . the answer to the question" what is a Trojan Horse" is. ...it is basically a means of displaying a rather destructive program/virus as a harmless application so as to enter your computer undiscovered and allow unauthorised access.
An example is a program that claims to rid your pc of viruses, when in fact it is actually installs viruses on to your system.
There are several classifications of Trojans
- Data Sending Trojans
- Proxy Trojans
- FTP Trojans-Remote Access Trojans
- Denial Of Service attack Trojans(DOS Trojans)
- Security Software Disabling Trojans.
There is a lot more to tell about the Trojan Horse and what it does but hopefully this is enough to answer the question "what is a Trojan Horse " often asked by friends colleagues or the ever popular pub quiz.
