The Legend of Pegasus

Greek gods

Pegasus is another beautiful Greek Mythological beast. It is a white horse that has wings and it carried weapons for Zeus. Also Pegasus has been a part of many ancient battles fought by Zeus and other gods. He was a very brave and magnificent horse. Some of the Greek stories suggest that Poseidon fell in love with Medusa, the caretaker of the temple of Athena and Poseidon secured her inside the temple.

Athena was very angry with Poseidon for doing that and in order to punish Poseidon, she cursed Medusa to become a monster with serpents in her hair. Also, according to the curse any living person who looked into her eyes would turn into a stone. She also banished her to live on the island of Gorgons.

As a result of Poseidon's seduction of Medusa, Pegasus was born. From the island of the Gorgons, Pegasus flew to Mt. Helicon and here the muses looked after him. Athena found Pegasus and took him to the Greek hero Bellerophon. He tamed Pegasus and wanted to use him to fly to Mt. Olympus where the gods lived. However, Zeus was angered by this and decided to punish Bellerophon for this blasphemy. But he decided to spare Pegasus and kept.

Pegasus and Peuseus who was the son of Zeus became very good friends later. Athena also presented Pegasus a golden bridle that would help him to fight against Evil. There is also a constellation created in the night sky by Zeus as a reward for his bravery throughout.

Pegasus is considered to be one of the many beautiful beasts of Greek mythology.
