You'll hear the age old argument what is better lifting heavy weights or light weights, over and over and over again. Just starting use light weights. You need to tone your muscles up and get them ready for the heavy weights. Heavy weights are the way to go to build real lean muscle for big biceps, pecs, triceps, thigh and calves. But jumping the gun to soon will ether get you hurt, or you will become to sore. And you will just end up quitting. And you don't ever want to do that. If you do, you end up coming back to this article or start all over again, and be further behind then if you stuck with it and where getting your muscular physique. Using light weights to begin with will also help you to be able to do more reps per set and work up a good sweat to burn some calories and fat at the same time.

After a good week of working out start to add about five percent more weight after each workout. Adjust the amount of reps per set to compensate for the added weight over time.

Put your heart into it. Make every set count; work it like it's your last set and stay consistent with your workouts. If you need too get a spotter especially if your working out at home and not in a gym. There are some really good home gyms that reduce the need for a spotter but for added safety you should always have one.

Here are some good exercises to start out with. You should have a well rounded workout program thou. And stick to it; don't jump from one to the other. Once you find a good one stay with it and you'll see real quick how fast you can get muscles and keep them.

  • Dumbbell Incline Bench Press

  • Squats
